A Space Shuttle

Soar into space and beyond with this space shuttle created from a milk carton and other every day materials! Lots of fun! A great craft for the space enthusiast.

Craft Project Directions:
To make this craft project you will need a milk carton, 4 dixie or bathroom cups, two straws, white paper, scissors, tape, glue, and crayons or markers to decorate your space shuttle.

To begin, first take a milk carton and wash it. Let it dry and then open up the top completely. Cut slits down the corners of the open top and inch or two and fold the flaps you create by doing this down flat. Tape them flat to create a flat top on the milk carton.

Now cover the milk carton with white paper. Tape or glue it in place.

Next position the milk carton in front of you so that it is taller than it is wide.

Make two cuts with your scissors horizontally across the side of the milk carton facing you, the first one about an inch from the top and the second about 3 1/2 inches below that.

Next cut a vertical cut in the center of the two horizontal cuts you just made uniting them. Now open up the two 'doors' you made.Next take a piece of white paper and fold it in half and then fold it in half again. Cut a slightly curvy triangle with a wide base. You should now have four triangles.

Tape each one of these (the wide base) to the top of the milk carton and then gather the points of the triangles together to create the front of the shuttle. Tape them together and shut.

Next take another piece of white paper and cut out a large wing shape. Use the picture as a guide. Tape of glue this to the back side of the space shuttle.

Next take three white dixie cups or bathroom cups and attach them to the bottom of the milk carton. Cut one in half and set aside.

Next cut out a fin (a small angled rectangle) and fold over one of the ends to create a flap. Tape this just below the doors you created.

Now tape or glue on the dixie cup pieces - one on either side on the fin. Next create a space shuttle attachment. Take a straw and cut a tiny slit into the top of it.

Insert another straw into it at an angle and tape in place. Cut out two small rectangles from the white paper and roll one of them up and tape it on top of the other.

Fold the end of the straw down and tape the rectangle to it in the center. Tape the other end of the straw inside the open doors of the space shuttle.

Now decorate! Add NASA lettering, flags, windows, stripes, and more to your space shuttle!
Blast into space and have some fun!

Enjoy Crafting!
